Know Thyself

I am exploring.

Today, it is with Frankentienne.
He is Haitian.
He is a writer. He is a playwright.
He paints. He sings.
He is an activist.
With strong sense of words in both Haitian Creole and French, he is called the father of Haitian letters.

So I wonder: how come I have never heard of him?
And then I think of all the conversations I have had or listened to recently about how common it is for some people in history, especially Black women, to be left unheard of.
For a long time, I’ve been working on rectifying that.
For a long time.
Since March 12, I’ve had more time to sit with history, its impacts, and all of the work that needs to be done to learn.
And grow.

Knowing history is important, and it begins with yourself.
