How to Show Up for the Revolution

For months, I have been flexing, stretching, preparing for when “they come for me.”
The metaphorical “they,” of course.
This was often used to reference the educational systems
doused in Whiteness
that months of
reading, conversing, meditating, listening, and walking walking walking
has allowed me an unprecedented amount of time to
locate the language of critiquing and processing and critique
it all.

I am have been readying myself to show up for the revolution against those systems.
In my own way.
Which as one friend describes means I can slice you without you even knowing.

I bought all about love: new visions earlier in the year and saved it for the beginning of the school year.
Especially for this time of year.
I wanted to make sure I had at least one book that was centering love at a time when I knew the world and those systems I mentioned were going to challenge me to do everything but.
Helping me think about love when I know “they” would be coming for me.
I knew to expect none other than genius from bell hooks.

For now, I am reading words that remind me of love and of all the ways that love shows up in our lives and what it means to love and how we describe love and the importance of teaching others to love and how we learn to love ourselves.

As Day 3 of SY 2020-2021 is wrapping up, I am so happy I made this choice.
I really needed it.

I am showing up with
love
grace
patience
theory
fire
understanding
history
compassion
and
joy
